TTS Tip of the Day: Using name and description for rules clarifications
Tabletop Simulator is a powerful and sometimes frustrating platform. With that power comes some complexity and a lot of features that may not be obvious. This series highlights some features in TTS that you may or may not be familiar with.
A big hurdle in most games is the rules teach. The more complex the game, typically the longer and more involved the teach. This can be even harder in a digital environment where you can't rely on facial expressions to determine if players are understanding what you're saying.
One thing you can do is add names and descriptions to your objects that act as rule clarifications. For example, if your game has a tile that allows players to place a building for free, you can use the Description field to add a text explanation for the symbol on that tile. Simply right-click on the object and enter text in the Name and/or Description fields. Text in the Name field is immediately displayed as a tooltip when hovering over an object. Text in the Description field is displayed after a few seconds delay.
